About Ruben Mattia Santorsa

Ruben Mattia Santorsa (*1992) plays electric bass, classical and electric guitar. Contemporary music is currently at the heart of his work and his artistic manifesto. He firmly believes that through it we can convey a message of openness, acceptance and social, political and cultural renewal, much needed in today’s society.
He loves to travel and meet musicians, and his activity has led him to hold concerts and lectures in Europe, the United States and South America, in places such as the Northwestern University of Chicago, the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris, the Elbphilarmonie in Hamburg, the KKL in Lucerne and the Italian Institute of Culture in Vienna.
Crucial to his artistic growth is his work with young composers such as Giulia Lorusso, Yesid Fonseca, Maurizio Azzan, and with personalities such as Helmut Lachenmann, Rebecca Saunders, Salvatore Sciarrino and Luca Francesconi. In his various collaborations, he premiered more than 30 pieces.

In addition to his career as a soloist, he is also continuing his research on contemporary music in chamber and orchestra music, performing with ensembles and orchestras such as Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, Mosaik Ensemble, Ensemble Contrechamps, MDI Ensemble, The Black Page Orchestra, Schallfeld Ensemble and Sonemus Ensemble, with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Marin Alsop, Enno Poppe, Matthias Pintscher and Peter Eötvös.

He has given concerts in the US, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, France, Hungary, Germany, Colombia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina in cities and venues such as New York, (Mise-enplace), Vienna (Istituto Italiano di Cutlura), Budapest, Paris (Fondation des États-Unis), Munich (Münchener Biennale), Bogotà (Universidad de los Andes), Bern, Zurich (Literaturhaus), Geneva, Darmstadt, Sarajevo (Sonemus Fest), Milan (Auditorium Martinitt e Stelline), Venice, Noto (Sala degli Specchi) and Ljubljana.

He played as a soloist with the Metropolitan Orchestra of Lisbon the premiere of “Zero Formula” by Luca Francesconi, and with the Nec Ensemble and the “Ensemble Accademia alla Scala”.

He gave lectures about the Contemporary guitar in Paris (Conservatoire Superieur de musique et dance), Boston (New England Conservatory), Chicago (Northwestern University), Lisbon (Escola Superior de Música) and Sevilla (Conservatorio Superior de Música Manuel Castillo). The encounters with Tom Pauwels and Yaron Deutsch were crucial for developing his aesthetics on the electric guitar. He graduated the Master Specialized in Soloist (Solistendiplom) with a specialization in contemporary music and the Master of Performance at the Hochschule of Bern with the teacher Elena Càsoli. He won the scholarship Swiss Government Excellence for the years 2013-2015, which was conferred to the best students who have been admitted to a Swiss university.
